Chloe's Zebra Cake

Chloe's request was for a lime green rainbow cake. She wanted animals, but didn't want it to be "baby-ish". There was a special round of ooohs and aaahs when the cake was cut.

This was an egg free cake, covered in cream cheese frosting and mmf.

Genevive

Genevive's 80th Birthday Party, attended by her mahjong, euchere and drumming circle groups, was a big hit. Her favorite (ok, only) son orchestrated the evening, and her family honored her with their presence. There was lots of laughs, Stories were sometime stretched, but it was all memorable.

Gen took the top tier home to serve at the tuesday euchere game!

Desmond

Celebrating 60 years was never suppose to happen. Desmond's doctors told his mother he wouldn't live past 30.

She as well as hundreds of his friends and church members celebrated the miracle of Desmond's life at a big picnic.

The finished cake had a lot of 60's on the cake as well as a birthday wish.

Mom's Birthday Cakes

Mom's favorite flowers are geraniums and tulips. I made her a clay pot made with carrot cake and and a pineapple flower vase. They were both adorable.

The carrot cake was covered in cream cheese frosting and mm fondant. The top is crushed oreo's, which really looked like dirt. For fun the gummy worms came a crawling.

The pineapple cake was filled with pineapple and covered with cream cheese frosting and mm fondant.

I had never made wired flowers before, but I think these turned out pretty good. Mom is saving them to show her friends at an upcoming luncheon.

I love the geraniums. I used brown dust on the flowers, and painted the leaves. In hindsight I should have made twice as many leaves.

She's leaving us!

Beth is leaving us soon. For her fairwell bash, her mom, Robin, commissioned this cake. It had replicas of a la thomas guide and california map. Her new address tag was her favorite part.

Loved this cake!! It was devil's food, dark chocolate ganache, marshmallow fondant.

Spike

Spike Cakes

Oliver and Quinncy turned 3 at a park party today. The boys loved the dino cakes which were rainbow inside, and covered with marshmallow fondant. The head and tail were made with rice krispy treats.

Maddy's 13th Birthday

Yea for Maddy! This cake was totally designed by Maddy. She knew exactly what she wanted, and that included the skate on the top.

Funny story (NOT) about the delivery. Made it all the way to Libertyville, and as I am turning into her subdivision a white SUV came charging at me. I couldn't have been going over 5 mph, but I hit the break and the cake tipped over. Luckily the top two tiers were locked in, but they slide off the bottom tier, making a big dent. I was close to tears, but Maddy and her mom seemed to care less, and assured me all was good. If this would have been for a "regular" client, it all could have turned very bad.

Once again, I can definately say I learned alot with this cake.

Spring Fling

This cake was for a birthday girl named Kim. It is a stacked lemon cake, filled with homemade lemon curd and frosted in a lemon cream cheese, and covered with homemade fondant. The top was made for Kim to take home, and the remaining cake was enjoyed by all. As we said goodnight, she said it was the prettiest birthday cake she's ever had. Aaawwww. Love it. I love the spring-y feeling, light and delicate. The flowers and bow add lots of dimension. I'm planning on doing a similar for a baby boy in the future, in pale blue. I could also see this in all white for a wedding cake.

Tinkerbell Cake

I didn't think ahead to the delivery of the cake. It was pretty heavy, just the base cake. Minnie and I got it there, and Angela had to carry it in. Yikes. Miuccia loved the cake. I saw her asking her friends if they saw the cake...made all her friends look, and they oooh'd and aaaah'd. It definitely was over the top. As I say with every cake, I learned something.

Tinkerbell Cake

So far, things are going well.
I have most of tomorrow to play with it...

Tinkerbell Cake

This is a cake due this weekend, for a special 4 year old. None of this is complete yet, lots of details to go. I will take more pictures tomorrow, and you can see the progress.

Tinkerbell is hovering over the dixie dust. The plan is to have a" glow" come from the pixie dust.

The pixie dust container is made out of rice crispy treats.

Roseta lives in a rose cottage.

The cottage is also made out of rice crispy treats.

Fawn is known to take care of animals. She is going to help this baby blue bird take flight.
I made the nest by extruding fondant thru the garlic press.

Stella's Art Show Cake

Peggy was hosting a neighborhood art installation at Stella's Restaurant. She commissioned this cake for the closing party, for the staff and artist who participated.
It was pretty big, and weighed a ton, but I heard it was fabulous. It was a chocolate cake, filled and covered in chocolate ganache, and embellished with fondant. I painted the window reflections with food coloring, and the hand is made of rice crispy, and covered in white chocolate.

Perfect Present Cake

This is a wilton class cake. In this class I used the wilton fondant, but decided to try making my own because of the taste issue. It is such a simple recipe and such a cost saving.

When I do this type cake in the future, I would add some gum paste to the bow and the curly cues, which would make it less likely to crack.

Wackie Jackie Cake

This is Jackie, and she loves to make things. She is a smart kid, and loves to be involved in whatever is going on. She made this cake, pretty much on her own. It was fun spending time with her, and seeing how proud she was of her finished cake.

We are all proud of Jax!!!

Coconut Cake

Minnie's request was for a coconut birthday cake. This was a white cake, filled and frosted in buttercream, and then the coconut was pressed onto the buttercream. She love it!

Debbie's Birthday Cake

Debbie wanted nothing to do with a fondant cake, so this white cake was filled and covered with buttercream, and it gave me practice with my piping skills.
The purple flowers and green leaves were left-overs from class. I love the ruffle border.
Debbie loved the cake, and that made me happy!!

Easter Basket Cake

This cake was a wilton class cake. It showcases a basketweave pattern and flowers made ahead of time. I learned alot making this cake. I hate the wilton class buttercream frosting recipe because it contains crisco shortening, so I ended up sending this cake to work with Minnie because we wouldn't eat it.

Double Chocolate Supreme

This is a beautiful chocolate cake covered in a homemade chocolate marshmallow fondant. It tastes just like a soft tootsie roll.
You would be suprised how much time difference is between these two similar cakes. The roses on the top cake take 15-20 minutes each, while the roses on the bottom cake are casual roses which take 1 or 2 min.

The top cake was made for my sister-in-law Stella. We had a barbeque at her house on the day of the 2010 floods!
The bottom cake was given to Gen, who shared it with her bingo gang.

WHAT THE.......

Ok, so I thought I would try a topsy turvy cake before anyone asked me to make them one, so it wasn't a disappointment to anyone but me. I guess some day I will try again.
I did learn that I need a stiffer cake, and less fruit filling , so maybe I'll get it right next time,

Creamsicle Cake

This orange creamsicle cake was for Shirley, who reminds me of Rose from MamaMia. Anyway, it had a refreshing citrus taste. It was filled with orange whipped cream, frosted with orange cream cheese frosting and covered in marshmallow fondant.

It was about 90 degrees, and humid. You can see a big bubble on the front of the cake. Of course, Shirley never saw the bubble.

Paisley Gardenia

This cake was for Robin's 70th birthday. It was a chocolate and carrot cake combination. The colors and design were inspired from the invitation, and gardenia's are her favorite flower.

I had never made a gardenia before...but I think it turned out great, since Robin thought it was real.
